On my way to work every day, I pass by this particular estate whose main gate is next to the Expressway I travel. The estate name is boldly written on the gate; it reads Pearly Gate Estate. I had passed by that way for over four years, was familiar with the sight of that gate but it’s peculiarity never dawned on me until this particularly morning.
The day was yet to break as I passed by on a recent Monday morning. The reflection of vehicle head-lamps against the estate gate, standing deserted in the dark, made the name: Pearly Gate, strike a chord in me. “I have seen this name in the bible” I thought to myself. So, I took my phone, opened the bible app and searched for Pearly Gates.
“And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass” Rev 21:21. The verses that follow describes a city which Christians desire and hope to spend their eternity; “…and the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it and the Lamb is the light thereof”.\
This City is called Heaven. Someday, we shall all die; the question for everyone on the face of the earth is whether we will qualify to spend our eternity in that City? Will I walk in through those Pearly Gates? There is a personal conversation each person is supposed to have with themselves; where do I want to end up after my time on earth?
Am I prepared to make the required sacrifice to enter in at the strait gate? What price am I willing to pay to achieve eternal life in Heaven? Of a fact, the main price has already been paid; we just need to take a decision to accept the gift of eternal life that has been freely offer by the Lord Jesus Christ.
Whilst still here, I will continue to enjoy the privilege of sighting the “Pearly Gate” every morning, reminding myself of the real Pearly Gate that I must prayerfully witness when I finally transition to glory. I hope you will make the same determination too.
